While the latest research underscores the significance of protected areas in mitigating biodiversity loss, we must also recognise the urgent need for strong, more comprehensive actions.

Vertebrate populations within protected areas decline at a rate five times slower than those in unprotected areas... but they still decline. It is a positive step, but it is not a enough.

The study linked below emphasises the importance of expanding and enhancing protected area coverage and taking immediate action to address the threats beyond their boundaries. Only by created properly managing, and safeguarding these areas, while simultaneously tackling broader issues, can we begin to work towards a nature positive earth.
