We need to talk about COP28

It's Friday, so normally we would share a fun fact, but today we need to talk about COP28. So... What are your thoughts on the outcomes of COP28?

This event has been a rollercoaster. Some historic advancements have been made, and some enormous opportunities have been missed.

We must acknowledge and applaud the agreement to “transition away” from fossil fuels. It is an important step forward, and perhaps all we could have hoped for given that this major driver of climate change is only recently officially being recognised at the COP events.

It is a first step, in a long process where wording will hopefully become stronger, more focussed, and more binding….But as it is now? It is weak, lacks urgency, and doesn't represent the level of action needed in order to prevent a climate crisis, and global suffering, beginning with our most vulnerable communities.

Time is running out, and to quote Anne Rasmussen’s COP28 speech, “the process has failed us.”So what can we, as individuals, businesses, organisations, and communities do to drive the urgent change that is needed, while we wait for our leaders to take charge?
